We live in a smarter world than ever before, yet people still make the stupid decision to drive drunk. This is especially true on Super Bowl Sunday, one of the deadliest nights of the year in Canada for impaired driving. As a brand that has created some of the most iconic Super Bowl spots ever, Budweiser challenged us to bring awareness to this issue this Super Bowl LIV. But then we challenged ourselves. Can we actually create a smart solution to a real world problem through a commercial?

To encourage people to get home the smart way after the big game, we teamed up with the leading ridheshare app to recreate the iconic “Whassup” spot. The purpose of the spot wasn’t just to entertain however. Punctuated with the largest Uber promo in the brand’s history we created a real behavior change.

With a production budget and media spend no where near its American advertising counterparts, “Whassup Again” only ran during the Canadian broadcast, but made headlines globally. It ranked on 69 lists of the best Super Bowl ads and crossing over ten borders. But most importantly, we actually made an impact in the real world, with Uber reporting an 11% increase in rides vs. last year.
